Role and Responsibilities:

 Full Time Field Engineer position aboard the SDTS as the Machinist supporting the maintenance, operations and repairs. The Field Engineer position requires underway travel supporting the Test Ship mission. As the SDTS Machinist, responsible for operating and maintaining ship propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment and outside machinery.

Position Duties:

•BS in a technical field and 4 to 6 years’ experience Or no degree and 8 - 10 years’ experience performing as a machinist.

•Must be able to provide onboard production/fabrication and special machining support, to include, equipment removal and installation, replacement part fabrication.

•Must be able to perform the upkeep and maintenance of the machine shop and equipment including lathes, welding machine, drill press, bench grinders, etc.

•Must be qualified and experienced in a variety of welding disciplines (TIG, MIG, etc.), brazing, soldering and the operation of exothermic cutting equipment, i.e. Plasma cutters.

•Must be able to provide solutions for special machining requirements with shipboard equipment.

•Must be able to conduct mechanical alignments of pumps, motors, and other equipment using dial indicators, calipers, etc.

•Must be able to fabricate parts and components from stock material, or repair existing parts and components using available equipment.

•Must be able to machine repair parts for motors, hydraulic and pneumatic devices.

•Must be able to interface with each Department, defining requirements and work with the Leads.

•Must be able to read engineering drawings, take measurements and sketch diagrams.

•Must be proactive and pull projects from the CSMP, procure material, schedule repairs and fabricate parts.

•Must be able to create and analyze machinery operating reports and records

•Must be able to work independently, complete scheduled tasks and provide technical guidance to team members.

•Must be able to take responsibility for action items assigned, complete the actions and provide status.

•Must be able to pass initial/routine drug screens and background check satisfactorily

•Must be able to follow company policies and procedures.

•Must be able to write clear and concise written reports.

Preferred Skills:

•Navy Machinist Mate A/C School.

•Marine environment machinist.

Physical Requirements:

•Must be able to pass and maintain qualifications for shipboard Fire Fighting.

•Must be able to transit vertical ladders and inclined ladders.

•Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.

•Must be able to get underway to support mission operations.

•Possess valid driver’s license.

•Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
