Role and Responsibilities:

 Full Time position supporting the Self Defense Test Ship (SDTS) filling a Medical/Safety Officer position on SDTS. The position is on board the SDTS presently located in San Diego for SRA then return back to NSWC Port Hueneme, California.

Position Qualifications:

•Medical/Safety Officer must possess a minimum of Bachelor’s degree in nursing and 4-6 years of medical experience or no degree and eight or more years documented medical experience as a an EMT, Paramedic, Navy Corpsman or Medical Professional.

•Must successfully complete a USCG approved formal course to meet Standards of Training, Certifications and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW) competency standard.

•Responsible for providing healthcare services and monitoring the health of crew members and embarked personnel.

•Document and maintain onboard crew members medical records.

•Safety Officer responsibilities include maintaining a Safety Management System to document and track crew members safety training records and track occupational injuries.

•Conduct inspections to ensure crew members maintain safe and healthful working conditions.

•

Provide/setup safety training, including maritime OSHA training. Safety training also includes providing educational material, safety meeting discussions, videos and hazard assessments.

•Must be able to work independent completing onboard maintenance requirements.

•Must be able to support overnight underway evolutions (includes regular housekeeping/cleaning).

•Must have basic computer Microsoft Office skills (i.e. word processing, spreadsheets, data entry)

•Have a valid driver’s license with own transportation.

•Must have no criminal record and able to satisfactorily complete background check.

•Must be able to work under minimal supervision, perform and complete tasks with limited guidance.

•Able to follow company policies and procedures.

•Able to write, speak and understand English and able to write clear, detailed reports.

Preferred Skills:

•Field Medical Experience

Physical Requirements:

•Must be able to climb up and down the shipboard vertical ladders.

•Must be able to lift and carry Medical Field Bag up to 50 pounds.

•Must be able to get underway to support mission operations.
